Lakewood Christian Church

Bishops Rex and Karen (more affectionately called Mrs. KK) were called to lead God's people in May 1988. This was the “beginning” of Lakewood Christian Church.

Rex and Karen met one another in February of 1987 and immediately “knew” that God had put them together as eternal “soul mates” to love one another and the world around them for the days ahead.  They began their "pastoral ministry" in May of 1988 and they were married two months later on July 30, 1988.

This was the beginning of what is now a 32 year journey in ministry.

 Mrs. KK has served in Children’s Ministry since the beginning. Her kind and patient spirit has been so effective in leading our little ones to Jesus  and on a level to which they understand. 

She has also been by Pastor Rex’s side in leading our Church family in praise and worship for all of these years. Pastor Karen is an extremely anointed pianist and keyboard player while Pastor Rex has served in a double capacity of ministry serving as both our Pastor and Worship Leader. 

Pastor Rex is a musician as well as a songwriter and psalmist and has written many praise and worship songs which Lakewood celebrates alongside other contemporary praise songs of the day.

Our Bishop received his Bachelors Degree ( B.S. in Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministries) from East Coast Bible College 1994-1998. Pastor graduated Summa Cum Laude and was awarded several awards ( The Biblical Studies Award; The Greek Award; Honors Award and “Who’s Who Among Students In Colleges and Universities”) Pastor loves studying the “original languages” of the Bible (Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic) for the added light they give to the translations. But even with these academic accomplishments, Pastor Rex would tell us that these have little influence apart from the anointing and leading of the Holy Spirit. 

Except for the Lord Jesus Christ, Pastor regards the Apostle Paul as his greatest hero of the Scriptures. Paul was a perfect example of a man which had “both” the training in the academics of Judaism AND the anointing of the Holy Spirit. These served the Apostle Paul well as he became “all things to all men” so that he might win them to Christ. Not to mention the fact that the he also authored half of the New Testament but let there be no doubt...Our Pastor “LOVES JESUS and HIS WORD!” 

Both our Pastor and our First Lady enjoy life and each other!

Pastor would be quick to say that next to his salvation, God's greatest gifts are his family. 

"There is no way I would have wanted to do these last 32 years of ministry alone. With God's call and help I'm so glad that Father God has allowed us to do this together!"

Mrs. KK enjoys shopping for others (alot!). As a Radiological Technologist she has worked in the health care industry all of her life. Her expertise is is in C.A.T. Scans, Nuclear scans, Mamography, and X-Ray. 

Our Pastor and his brother Ronny are both private pilots and love sharing this blessing with others. (Have you been “UP” yet?) And for the record, Pastor believes his brother Ronny to be the “greatest brother” he could ever ask for! Ronny has faithfully served by his brother / Pastor for the whole duration of their ministry.  They both also have motorcycles and love riding wherever the road may lead them! They’ve done trips to the mountains, beach, and Daytona bike week (twice!)

Our Bishop and First Lady are proud of their one son (Rex Jr.) and grandson (Destin) who both live in Lake Wylie, S.C.

Rex Jr. is a Paul Mitchell Master Hair Stylist and has been featured in Vogue magazine and worked on the set of the "Hunger Games."

Like his father, Rex loves to sing and play guitar. EVERYONE loves Rex Jr.!

Their grandson Destin is quite the athlete and excels in both baseball and basketball.  Paw Paw calls him his "Heartmelt!"

Pastor and First Lady say that, "Both Rex and Destin have laughs that are contagious and hearts that you just want to always be around."

"Yeah, we love our boys!"
